Galbraith coordinated the pre-contract design, statutory consent and cost control process with the design team before managing the works on site to completion. A number of additional factors added to the complexity of the project, including the installation of timber built play equipment and a catering kitchen, supplied by 3rd parties to the main contract. A partial demolition of the original building was also required prior to construction of the new extensions.
The project also included a re-design of the parking areas, accommodating a new overflow car park, coach parking and new accessible parking bays. A reconfiguration of the hard and soft landscaping completed the re-development, with the addition of a SuDS pond to collect rainwater from the site.
The outdoor play park remained operational during construction. Additional health and safety measures were adopted to ensure the public areas were suitably hoarded from the building site. This required close communication with the play park manager and contractor, to ensure vehicle and pedestrian movements were carefully managed.
The project was successfully completed in February 2023, prior to the Easter holidays, in line with the original programme and on budget.
