Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)

The team at Galbraith are extremely well positioned to introduce developers to landowners/occupiers looking to supply verified BNG units. Our unique insights enable us to realise opportunities that ensure high levels of integrity, the best environmental gains and lowest scheme risks.

The passing of the Environment Act in 2021 and its amendments to the Town & Country Planning Act 1990 has brought a new approach to development that looks to leave the natural environment in a measurably better condition than it was beforehand (a BNG of at least 10%).  The Biodiversity Net Gain concept and the accompanying government guidance continues to evolve and develop but our team has been working with local authorities from the outset to pioneer its implementation.  Our team can:

  • Help you understand Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Explore options/ opportunities/ exemptions/ risk for landowners and developers
  • Advise on interactions with existing subsidy schemes such as SFI and CSS
  • Provide insights into the market price for BNG units (they aren't homogeneous like BPS entitlements)
  • Guide you through the registration and pre-sale process
  • Review Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMP's) to ensure they are achievable
  • Manage BNG sites to ensure compliance and continuity for the lifetime of the scheme (30+ years)
  • Work with your professional advisors to ensure the best outcome
