Ledgowan Estate, located between Achnasheen and Lochcarron in Wester Ross, lies amidst the dramatic and stunning scenery of the West Highlands and offers some of the finest deer stalking in Scotland.

The estate is truly a jewel in the Highlands' and is renowned for its deer stalking which is amongst the finest around, offering both gentle and challenging stalking and an excellent quality of beast. Ledgowan extends to some 11,100 acres and is delightfully private, yet readily accessible to nearby Inverness.   

The Lodge at Ledgowan is situated at the eastern end of the estate on the edge of the small village of Achnasheen, along with the two estate cottages and deer larder. Ledgowan is a traditional style lodge, believed to date back to 1880 and offering a wealth of family accommodation with eight bedrooms and four bathrooms. The formal public rooms retain elegant period features including open fireplaces, shuttered windows and ornate cornicing.

There are effectively three stalking beats on the estate, with a good stock of deer providing an average annual cull of around 36 stags and 35 hinds. With the estate rising from about 500 feet to 2,870 feet at the summit of Carn Gorm, the southerly views towards Monar and Pait, and westerly over to Glencarron and the coast, are immensely spectacular.

The estate also offers enjoyable walked up grouse shooting, and with five different beats, the ground is traditionally never shot twice in a season.  The grouse shooting could be developed further, whilst along the shores of Loch Gowan, a productive snipe bog also produces some good sport.  

There are also a number of lochs on the estate including Loch a' Chroisg and Loch Cnoc na Moine, offering enjoyable trout fishing as well as arctic char and pike being found in some of the lochs.

It's perhaps of little surprise that an estate such as Ledgowan has an interesting history attached to it, having been in the hands of many aristocratic figures over the years, including Alexander Matheson of Ardross and Lochalsh, MP, the Ross family who in 1904 built the new lodge', a private shooting lodge for Major Ross. The estate was then sold to Lord Latymer of Coutts Bank, London in 1927.

It remained in the Latymer family until 1946 when it was purchased by the MacDonald family from Cononbrae who sold it off in two lots in 1962; the new lodge to the Ritchie Hotel Company, which is still being run today as the Ledgowan Hotel and the estate to the Ruggles-Brise family, the current owners.
