Galbraith, a professional member of NFUS, is the leading rural consultancy and land agency in Scotland and the North of England, managing farm, forestry, land and estate interests on over 4.5 million acres.
John Kerr, Ayrshire Regional Chair for NFU Scotland, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alice to the Vice Chair role and grateful for her commitment to NFUS over the past few years. Farmers have been let down by successive governments and the current crisis could have been avoided if there had been a better dialogue between politicians and farming communities. What is good to see, however, is the strength of feeling and unity across Scotland in supporting farmers. Alice will be an excellent addition to the team as we face these challenges ahead.”
Alice Wilson commented: “Farmers are the backbone of rural Scotland and integral to life in Ayrshire. This is a time of immense stress and uncertainty as farmers battle for recognition in terms of their contribution to the economy, sustainable land use, healthy food and wildlife conservation. The recent changes to inheritance tax for the agricultural sector, coupled with rising input costs and continuing uncertainty with regard to public policy, are all adding to the burden. I am proud to have been elected as Vice Chair of the South Ayrshire branch and look forward to working on behalf of farmers, not least ensuring that the importance of agriculture is known to all.”
Alice Wilson comes from a dairy farming family in South Ayrshire. A Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers, a Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) registered valuer, and RICS Chartered Surveyor, her work takes her to farms in Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway, South West Scotland and parts of Northern England.
