The firm has published its latest statistics for the first quarter of 2018 (Jan March), which saw a 22% increase in the number of properties available to sell through Galbraith in Castle Douglas, and twice the number of properties going under offer, in comparison to the previous quarter.

Property viewings increased considerably with a 68% increase on last quarter and a 79% increase in the number of market appraisals carried out.  The number of prospective buyers actively registering with the Castle Douglas office also increased significantly this quarter, up 78% on the number of registrations made in the final quarter of 2017.

The Dumfries & Galloway property market continues to attract buyers from the rest of the UK who acknowledge the affordability on offer in the area, with 50% of buyers being English. 38% of buyers were Scottish and the remaining 13% were international buyers.

David Corrie, head of sales for Galbraith in Castle Douglas, said:

The demand for property in Dumfries & Galloway remains very healthy with active buyers quick to move when the right property comes on the market. We are witnessing good sales for smaller properties and mid-range properties where the market presents a great lifestyle choice due to the affordability and accessibility of property in this region. We recently handled the sale of a property which achieved 8% over the asking price within only 11 days of coming onto the market. The market still remains price sensitive, but demand for property has increased in line with a slightly reduced supply.

Marion Currie, residential associate in Castle Douglas, added:

We are seeing activity rise across the board but most notably in the west of the region, which has traditionally been slower than other pockets of Dumfries & Galloway. We now have a dedicated Wigtownshire consultant, Sheena Ramsay to lead sales in that area and as such we have brought more properties to the market and are achieving good sales in the west of the region. We believe the area will continue to show healthy activity throughout the peak summer selling period.

Across Scotland as a whole, Galbraith handled over 40 million worth of property sales over the past quarter alone (Jan March 2018).
